My name is Holland Imes and I am currently a student at Middle Tennessee State University.  I am working towards a dual degree in Interdisciplinary Media and Pre-Graduate Psychology in hopes to either become a professional travel photographer or a mental health therapist (or maybe both!).  I dream of designing mental health websites to make information more easily accessible for people who need it.

I am a lover of animals (especially dogs!), photography, and traveling.  I have a 3 year old Westie puppy named Bentley and he is the most rambunctious little fella I’ve ever seen.  He also possesses a few cat-like tendencies.  Photography is one of my more recent hobbies but has quickly turned into a passion.  I am the official photographer of my friend group and I wear that title proudly.  One day I hope to take my photography to a whole new level as I travel and explore the world through my camera lens.

As for my interest in psychology, it all started when I took a general psychology class to meet a general education requirement.  I quickly fell in love with the class and decided to change my major!  Now I am taking a social psychology class and have fallen in love with social psychology as well.  I plan to go to graduate school to pursue my masters in Social Psychology at Florida State University.

Frequently Asked Questions!

What got you interested in photography?

I started to really get into photography around high school when I would take trips with my family.  I took lots of pictures with my phone.  Once I became a senior and decided on my major for college, I expressed my interest in getting a camera.  My parents decided to get me a camera as my graduation present, and the rest is history!

Where is your dream place to travel?

Where ISN’T my dream place to travel honestly?! ahaha.  If I had to pick a place, it would probably be California.  I have only technically been to California once and I never left the Los Angeles airport (doesn’t count lol).  I have always wanted to go to Griffith Observatory at sunset, and walk down the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  I have also dreamed about seeing the Redwood Forest in the San Francisco area, and ride a trolley, or as I called them as a kid, “charlies”.

Do you have any other hobbies?

I do!  In high school I got involved in my schools competitive marching band.  I can honestly say that some of the best experiences of my life have come from it.  I got to travel to Indianapolis and perform at Lucas Oil Stadium for Grand Nationals, and I even met the love of my life through this organization.  Marching band has had such an influence on my life, and one summer I would want to tour with a drum corps as part of their media team so I could take pictures of my favorite activity.

I also really enjoy Squishmallow hunting.  So if anyone sees a blue octopus with hearts on its cheeks, let me know.

What kind of media projects have you produced/ worked on?

Back in high school, I would create videos for my band’s end of the year banquet.  My junior year, I made an “Everyone in a Minute” video where I would try and include a picture of every person in our band.  My senior year, I made the “Year in Review” video and the “Senior” video where we would honor each senior in the band.

Once I got my camera, I took quite a few peoples graduation photos, which helped me a lot with how to use my camera, angles, lighting, etc.  It also helped me get comfortable with talking to the subjects on how to pose because most of them were my friends.

Now that I am in college, I am currently working as a Marketing Assistant at the Rec Center at MTSU.  I get to take pictures, and learn how to design graphics to advertise events that are happening around the rec.  I absolutely love my job, and enjoy every minute that I am gaining practical, real world experience for my dream career.
